The citric acid cycle (or Krebs cycle) involves a series of enzymic steps that extract much more energy from glucose than glycolysis or pyruvate oxidation alone.
Our innovative model clearly explains the citric acid cycle. Students make colourful models of the 8 enzymes that are part of the cycle. They use these to look at what happens at each step in the oxidation of acetate to carbon dioxide and water.
