Model aromatic hydrocarbons clearly!
Aromatic hydrocarbons (or arenes) are molecules based on benzene. They are named for the sweet smelling oils they were first isolated from.
They are important in the production of plastics, adhesives, lubricants and even explosives. Aromatic hydrocarbons are easy to understand with our unique molecular models that shows how electrons behave during bond formation.
Your students first build their easy to make paper models of atoms and electrons. They use these to form organic molecules by sharing electrons between the atoms. The differently coloured electrons make it easy to see how the bonds are formed.
The models can then be used to show the structure of aromatic hydrocarbons, naming, their physical properties, substitution reactions and Frieden-Crafts acylation reactions. Clear instructions are provided in the powerpoint presentation.
